Sweet Valley Confidential

Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later, by Francine Pascal.

It was so different from being with Todd; even now it felt like a strange and disloyal thought but true. She tried to think of exactly how it was different. Yes, she and Todd had been together a fairly long time, had lived together for almost two years. That had to quiet passions. Or deepen them.

It had quieted theirs.

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Kind of made me want to re-read the old Sweet Valley books, the last of which were not written by Pascal herself but rather ghost-written. She's updated the books for the 21st century and made sure to include such staples as emailing, Facebook, and Twitter, but these characters hardly feel like the Sweet Valley characters were grew to love back in the '80s and '90s. Would be a fine "beach read" if she didn't so deftly manipulate the characters to fit one.

  1. I vaguely remember these from when I was younger, but they were I think a little bit before my time. Were they any good?

  2. They were before mine too (I'm 24) but the SVH (Sweet Valley High) ones were good. They also had Sweet Valley Kids, Sweet Valley Middle School or something like that, and Sweet Valley High Senior Year, which were the best ones. Also SVU too. I LOVED the books and I just feel like she pretty much trashed the memory of this one but making this one (SVC) so trashy/soap-opera-ey.

  3. You're only four years older than me :). But that sucks, that the new book got ruined. I read a review online about it somewhere, and they said the same thing pretty much, I think it was on Borders.com or something.

Did you ever read "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series? Because Ann Brashares just released a new one out, and its supposed to be 10 years later in the girls' lives. I am really curious about how she pulled that one off... :)

  4. I have, actually, and seen the movies, but the books are much better. I will have to check that one out.

  5. Oh yes definitely the books are a lot better! It bummed me out when they combined the last three books into one movie. One of my favorite parts was when Bridget went to live with her grandma for the summer, so I was really forward to that one coming to life :)

  8. I would love to see her do a Potter prequel or a series following Harrys kids.

  9. Oh that would be amazing!! A story about Harry's parents, from when they were in school. Or a continuation through Harry's kids. Or even a further indepth story of Voldemort, so that the reader can learn more about him. Sort of like a Wicked vs. Wizard of Oz thing.
